Google Drive Integration with Numeric

Last updated: August 11, 2026

šŸ” Overview

Numeric’s integration with Google Drive enables secure, read-only access to key financial documents—ensuring control, privacy, and audit readiness. This guide explains how the integration works, what permissions are required, and how documents are processed.

šŸ” Access & Permissions

  • āœ… Read-only access: Numeric only reads files; it never edits or writes to Drive. Note: During OAuth setup, you must grant ā€œfull accessā€ permissions (select ā€˜all’ for the access level) to enable the integration to function properly. Despite this permission level, Numeric only performs read operations.

  • šŸ“Ž Explicit linking required: Only documents linked in the Reconcile module are accessed.

  • šŸ‘¤ Per-user authentication: Each team member must link their own Google account.

  • šŸ›” Security governed by Google Workspace: All access aligns with your organization’s existing permissions and profiles.

šŸ”— How Document Integration Works

šŸ”„ Linking Process

  1. Go to Manage Sources in the Reconcile module.

  2. Link either:

    • A specific file, or

    • An entire folder (all spreadsheets in subfolders will be included).

  3. Numeric:

    • Loads spreadsheets

    • Highlights multi-entity files

    • Allows users to exclude files before syncing

šŸ“Š Data Reading & Processing

  • Numeric only reads files linked to reconciliations

  • There is no broad indexing or background scanning

  • Original Drive permissions remain unchanged

  • Multi-entity files receive special tagging for context-aware handling

šŸ”§ Troubleshooting File Linking Errors

If you encounter a "Failed to download file from Google Drive" error (status 400) when linking a file, the issue is typically caused by the Google account connected to your Numeric workspace not having access to the file.

  1. Verify file sharing permissions: Confirm the file is shared directly with the same Google account linked to your Numeric workspace, with at least Viewer access. The file may be accessible to your personal account but not the Numeric‑linked account.

  2. Reauthorize your connection: Go to Settings → File Storage and reauthorize the Google Drive connection.

  3. Use web app links: When linking files, use the Google Drive web app link rather than a local desktop Drive path.

āš™ Setup Instructions

  1. Navigate to: Settings → File Storage

  2. Follow the Google OAuth sign-in prompts

  3. Important: When prompted for access level, select ā€œallā€ (full access) rather than just ā€œSee all your Google Sheets spreadsheetsā€. This permission level is required for the integration to work, though Numeric will only read files.

  4. (Optional) Get admin approval from your Google Workspace Admin Portal

  5. Configure file or folder access as needed

šŸ”’ Security Considerations

  • Uses minimal OAuth scopes (read-only) — Note: While ā€œfull accessā€ permissions are required during setup, Numeric's operations are strictly read-only

  • Numeric cannot modify or delete files

  • Honors all existing Google Workspace access rules

  • User-level controls ensure privacy and compliance
