Content brief:

The session opens with an overview of what the MCP is and how it fits into the Numeric ecosystem. The core framing is that Numeric functions as the accounting operating system, the MCP is the interface that exposes Numeric's live state to AI, and the AI (Claude or otherwise) is the execution layer that applies judgment and runs workflows across systems. The MCP inherits existing Numeric user permissions, maintains a full audit trail, and works with any LLM that supports custom MCP connections.

Setup is covered briefly, walking through how to connect the Numeric MCP from the workspace settings page in Numeric and the connectors panel in Claude, including read-only and write/delete tool permissions that admins can configure.

The bulk of the session is two live demos:

Demo 1 - QBO Flux Analysis. Connects the QuickBooks Online MCP to Claude alongside Numeric to generate flux explanations enriched with transaction-level data. Covers how to identify in-scope flux tasks in Numeric, pull QBO data as an additional source, iterate with Claude to arrive at a defined output format, and push the completed explanations back into Numeric automatically, including immaterial sign-offs.

Demo 2 - Accruals Analysis. Uses Numeric transaction data from a NetSuite-connected workspace to identify accrual candidates, calculate amounts per accounting policy, generate a supporting workpaper, produce a journal entry CSV for import, and capture the methodology and results back in Numeric for future periods. Introduces the concept of a skill as a reusable, codified prompt that makes the workflow repeatable and shareable across the team.

The session closes with a discussion of where most customers sit today on the adoption curve (Activating, Exploring, Operating, Scaling), what it takes to move from experimentation to production, and where to find additional resources including the community skills library and the MCP Slack channel.
