Using Numeric When Your Company Has Multiple GL Systems
Last updated: June 3, 2025
Parent companies occasionally purchase other businesses or, for various reasons, end up managing multiple, separate General Ledger (GL) systems. This article clarifies the options for using Numeric when your company has multiple GL systems across its subsidiaries.
Numeric does not currently support integrating multiple GLs into a single instance.
There are two primary options for continuing to use Numeric if you have multiple GLs in play:
1. Upload Monthly Trial Balances from Subsidiary GLs to the Parent's GL (Preferred Method)
In this scenario, the Parent's GL serves as the ultimate source of truth. The monthly trial balance for each subsidiary is uploaded to the Parent's GL for consolidation, which is then connected to Numeric. In this situation the final consolidated numbers across all subsidiaries are hosted in the Parent GL. Even if a subsidiary's GL is not directly supported by Numeric we would be able to connect the Parent GL to our tooling to support Close Management. Features within Numeric, such as checklists, reconciliations, and standard flux reporting, will continue to work as expected based on the consolidated data.
However, because only trial balance-level detail is input into the Parent GL for these subsidiaries, certain features will not be supported for the individual subsidiary's books. This includes AI-driven flux explanations and custom reporting for any affected subsidiaries. In other words, Numeric would not be able to view vendor-specific information for an expense account, as only a summary trial balance entry was posted to the Parent's connected GL from that subsidiary.
2. Create Separate Numeric Instances
If your team requires the granular detail of transactional reporting from the subsidiary books, an alternative is to maintain multiple Numeric instances. This option is only applicable if the subsidiary also uses a GL system supported by Numeric (see 📄 Numeric: Integrations Overview). A separate instance for each subsidiary GL allows for features like AI flux explanations and custom reporting at the subsidiary level.
