How to Reorder Tasks in a Checklist
Last updated: April 7, 2026
Organizing your checklist the way you want is easy in Numeric. You can reorder tasks in your template at any time to reflect your priorities, workflow, or preferred sequence.
Reorder Checklist Template tasks using drag and drop
Note: This is only possible with Admin permissions. Please check your permissions within Settings, and contact your Administrator if needed.
In the Checklist module, navigate to the three dots at the top right corner of your screen and select 'Manage Template.'
Hover over the task you want to move. A drag handle (⠿) will appear to the left of the task name.
Click and hold the drag handle.
Drag the task up or down to your desired position.
Release to drop the task in its new location.
Your new order is saved automatically in the Checklist Template. Any changes made will apply to future periods only; open periods will not be auto-updated. Please note that you currently cannot reorder tasks in live versions of your Checklist.
Reorder groups on a grouped checklist
If your checklist is grouped by a property (e.g. Financial Statement Line Items), the order of the groups on the checklist is driven by the order of that property's values in the Settings tab — not by the checklist itself.
Note: You must have admin permissions to reorder categories.
To change the order of groups:
Go to the Settings tab.
Find the property your checklist is grouped by (e.g. FSLIs).
Drag and drop the property values into your desired order (for example, arranging FSLIs to follow balance sheet order rather than alphabetical order).
Return to the Checklist tab — the groups will now reflect the updated order.
Example: If your checklist is grouped by FSLI and the values are listed alphabetically in Settings, they will appear alphabetically on the checklist. To display them in balance sheet order, rearrange the FSLI values in the Settings tab accordingly.
Tips for Reordering Checklist Templates
Nested tasks: If your template checklist includes subtasks, you can reorder them within their parent task using the same drag-and-drop method.
Bulk reordering: To select multiple tasks, hover over the left side of each task title and click the box icon that appears. Once you select your tasks, apply bulk edits using the menu that will populate at the bottom of your screen.
Undo a move: If you accidentally move a task, use Ctrl + Z (Windows) or Cmd + Z (Mac) to undo the action.
Frequently asked questions
Will reordering tasks in the template affect due dates or assignments? No. Reordering only changes the visual position of a task in the checklist template. Due dates, assignees, and other task details remain unchanged.
